This Superfat Might Be the Best New Addition to Your Kitchen http://ift.tt/1TvAo7g

The latest iteration of the avocado craze is upon us, and it's totally not a fad - avocado oil just might be the best thing to happen to your kitchen (and health!).

What is it?

Well, simply put, it's a healthy fat. As an alternative to butter, olive oil, and coconut oil, you can do a lot of things with it, including (but not limited to) cooking. It comes from the pulp of avocado, and is nourishing for the body and skin thanks to dense nutrient content.

What's so special about it?

Avocado oil has a 520ºF smoke point, making it one of the highest on the smoke point scale. This means it's more stable, and you can use it for more ways of cooking - including searing meats, frying veggies in a wok, and baking.

With less saturated fatty acid than coconut and olive oil, similar omega-3 content to olive oil, and an even milder taste than both of them, avocado oil is the superfood of fats. A superfat, if you will.

It can lower your cholesterol, it helps the body absorb carotenoids (a type of antioxidant found in colorful veggies and fruits) and nutrients, and it's rich in vitamin E, which can help with your immune system and brain health.

How can you use it?

You can use avocado oil in lieu of fats for baking and cooking, or as part of a salad dressing or garnish for breads, hummus, soups, and guacamole. The addition of healthy fats will help your body better absorb nutrients from whatever you're eating. Topically, you can use it just like you would coconut oil, in your hair or on your skin for a facial.
