Did You Know a Food's Flavor Can Affect Weight Loss? http://ift.tt/2brI68a

Did you know that the flavor of your food can affect your chances of losing weight? As it turns out, certain foods actually trigger a greater feeling of fullness.

Eating umami snacks and foods can actually help prevent you from overeating. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published a study saying that umami flavor increases satiety. Not sure what exactly umami is? It's the fifth taste our tongues can detect; you've got bitter, sweet, sour, salty, and - you guessed it - umami. Umami is also called "savory" - think foods like mushrooms, meats, fish, shellfish, eggs, corn, legumes, sea vegetables, olives, nuts, etc. Researchers in this study found that subjects who ate umami foods ate significantly less at lunch but still felt satisfied, compared to the group without the added umami ingredients.

So what does this mean? If you're trying to drop some pounds, it's time to consider adding more umami foods into your diet. "Individuals with weight loss and weight management goals may benefit from increasing their intake of savory, nutrient-dense foods," said Megan Roosevelt, RDN and founder of HealthyGroceryGirl.com.

Megan recommends seaweed, which "is becoming a trending health food that deserves all the attention" because of its low-calorie, nutrient-dense nature. She suggested using seaweed sheets in lieu of tortillas for a healthy, low-carb wrap with a punch of satiating umami flavor. Start snacking on these healthy foods to feel full, and watch the pounds fall off.
